DIY HERBAL ACNE TREATMENT
- One tablespoon of dried lavender
- One tablespoon of dried lavender leaves
- One tablespoon of dried red clover
- Two quarts of distilled water
- Glass pot
- Pot holder
- Clean towel to cover your head
Simmer the herbs and water over a low to medium heat until steam rises. Move the pot to a flat table, laying on a potholder or cloth. Put your head over the herbal sauna to absorb the rising steam into your skin. Drape a towel over your head to contain the steam. Sit for ten to fifteen minutes, relaxing and enjoying the cleansing and relaxing action of the herbs. When you are done, splash cold water on your face; this will cause your pores to close again. Pat dry with a clean towel.
DIY WAXING
- 2 cups sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup lemon juice
Pour the sugar, water and lemon juice in a saucepan, and heat it over a low flame. Keep stirring the mixture until all the sugar has melted, and you have a thick brown liquid. Let it cool slightly.
DIY FACE MASK
- 1/3 cup of Oatmeal
- 1/4 cup of honey
- A few drops of lemon juice (if you wish)
- Pulverize the oatmeal using a coffee grinder or a blender or food processor.
- Mix the oatmeal, honey, and lemon juice together adding water for the desired consistency.
- Make sure your face is clean, and apply to face gently, in circular motion (to exfoliate).
- Leave on for 15 minutes and wash off. Use once or twice a week, but no more.
DIY BODY SCRUB
- 1/4 cup coarse brown sugar (to gently exfoliate without drying)
- 1 cup grapeseed oil (to moisturize)
- 1/4 cup grated lemon peel (to invigorate your senses)
- Mix together all ingredients.
- Gently rub on your body in a circular motion.
- Rinse with water.
DIY CHAPSTICK
- Melt the oil and beeswax in a heat-resistant container.
- Allow three to five minutes for the mixture to cool.
- Stir in any flavorings, colorants, and other optional ingredients.
- While the mixture is still a liquid, pour it into your prepared containers.
- Keep the finished product in a cool place or it will melt.
DIY DANDRUFF CONTROL
Mix 50/50 Apple Cider Vinegar with water and pour into a spray or squirt bottle. Thoroughly wet your hair with water, pat down excess water, then spray the apple cider vinegar mix all over your scalp. Allow to sit on your head for about 40 minutes, wash out, shampoo as normal.
DIY SEA SALT HAIRSPRAY
- 8 to 10 fluid ounce clear spray bottle (try a beauty supply store, or even the dollar store)
- 8 ounces of water (have hard water? try something bottled for this recipe)
- 8 teaspoons of finely ground sea salt (more for super thick or oily-prone hair)
- 2-3 teaspoons of conditioner
- 1-2 teaspoons of hair gel (helps set the salty style without adding too much crunch)
- 3-5 drops of essential oils (like jojoba or tea tree but totally optional)
- Add the sea salt and water together in the spray bottle and shake until the salt appears to be completely dissolved.
- Once the salt and water are mixed, add the conditioner and hair gel along with any essential oils.
- Before use, shake the bottle vigorously to help the oil and water-based ingredients combine and spray over damp hair.
- Give hair a quick, light scrunch to help the spray settle into waves. Allow hair to air dry.
- Keep the spray bottle somewhere cool and dry. Shelf-life should be about 1 year.
DIY CEDARWOOD SHAVING OIL
- 2 1/2 tbs Apricot kernel oil
- 2 1/2 tbs Castile soap
- 6 drops of Lime essential oil
- 4 drops of Atlas cedarwood essential oil
- Mix all the ingredients together in a bottle and shake well before use.
DIY DEODORANT
- Place 5 tablespoons of coconut oil (unrefined from natural food store) in a pot and liquify over low-medium heat. This happens very quickly.
- Remove from heat and add other ingredients.
- Add 1/4 cup of corn starch
- Add 1/4 cup of baking soda
- Stir continuously until smooth
- Add essential oils drop by drop until desired scent is reached
- Pour into a 4 oz canning jar.
- Leave lid off until cool. Re-stir once cooled, as essential oils sometimes float to the top.
- Can refrigerate for a couple days to solidify.
DIY NON TOXIC PERFUME
- “Clover dry” the petals or leaves by airing them out until they’re limp.
- Drop whole petals or leaves into the jar and pour in only enough alcohol to cover the top.
- Slosh the mixture around a bit.
- Let it sit for a day, and then strain out the petals or leaves through the netting. Don’t add any more alcohol.
- Instead, add more petals.
- Wait a day, strain out the petals, then add more petals. You see where this is going? Usually it takes around 5-10 times to get the right scent. Don’t be afraid to mix and match.
