BISPHENOL-A
A chemical building block used to make polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. Studies have linked BPA to hormone disruption, increased breast and prostate cancer cell growth, and early onset puberty, and obesity.
BENZENE
A compound used to make plastic that is a known carcinogen. Breathing this chemical while plastics are being burned or produced is very harmful..
POLYETHYLENE TEREPHTHALATE
Plastic products are labeled using the resin identification coding system developed. These numbers are usually located at the bottom of the product, this is found in products labeled Resin Code 1: PET : AKA polyester which is known to contain Styrene is a solvent that may be harmful if inhaled. Too much exposure to this may cause central nervous system depression causing dizziness, headaches or nausea and if overexposure is continued indefinitely, loss of consciousness, liver, and kidney damage (AKA No good).
ETHYLENE OXIDE
Ethylene Oxide is an impurity that may be present in products due to contamination. Like 1,4 Dioxane, it can be removed from these products for pennies. Ethylene Oxide is found in used in polyethylene terephthalate (PET) bottles and containers.
AROMATIC AMINES
Aromatic amines are a class of chemicals found in byproducts of the manufacturing of compounds such as polyurethane foams, dyes, pesticides, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors.
POLYCHLORINATED BIPHENYLS (PCBS)
Insulation fluids, plastics, adhesives, paper, inks, paints, dyes and other products containing PCBs manufactured before the ban in 1976 are still around. PCBs mimic estrogen and studies show that women with high levels of PCBs were 3 times more likely to acquire breast cancer.
POLYSTYRENE
Made from styrene, a suspected carcinogen, also contains p-nonylphenol; both chemicals are suspected EDCs. Do not consume fatty foods or alcoholic beverages from Styrofoam containers; styrene can leak into these substances. Some opaque plastic cutlery is as well.
BUTYLATED HYDROXYANISOLE (BHA)
Is an antioxidant and fragrance ingredient. It is a main ingredient in lipstick, eye shadow, moisturizers, mascaras and more. BHA is linked to cancer; developmental/reproductive toxicity, immunotoxicity and can act as an endocrine disruptor. Found in products such as food packaging, and in rubber products.
BISPHENOL A (BPA)
Bisphenol A (BPA) is a chemical building block used to make polycarbonate plastic and epoxy resins. Studies have linked BPA to hormone disruption, increased breast and prostate cancer cell growth, and early onset puberty, and obesity. REMOVE AND REPLACE – DUPLICATE
NITROSAMINES
Nitrosamines are contaminants that are found in other ingredients and can cause cancer, developmental/reproductive toxicity, organ toxicity and endocrine disruption. They are found in facial moisturizers and treatments, hairsprays, acne treatments, foundations, lip glosses, styling gels, relaxants and more. A test of party balloons indicated that many of them release small amounts of nitrosamines.
